Job summary

Sonic Healthcare USA in Knoxville, TN seeks a full-time Courier/Logistics associate to transport time-sensitive medical specimens and supplies between hospitals, medical centers, and clinics. This role requires delivering reliable, safe, and timely service with weekend and afternoon coverage as needed.

You will operate vehicles, plan routes, monitor safety, and coordinate maintenance while supporting a patient-focused healthcare team. Good driving record and strong teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• A valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record for the past three years.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under time constraints, without close supervision.
• Physical capability of light to medium lifting (up to 50lbs).
• Knowledge of medical terminology is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule work for couriers ensuring sufficient coverage of routes.
• Cover routes as needed including logistics department’s on-call weekend schedule to direct and execute logistical services.
• Ensure routine inspection of vehicles and schedule maintenance/repairs as needed.
• Educate employees in safe operation of vehicles, transportation, and record keeping of time sensitive specimens.
• Monitor courier performance and provide follow-up instructions.
• Communicate with clients to schedule services and obtain patient information.
• Routinely monitor inventory and client supply fulfillment systems and processes.
• Maintain positive professional relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Perform IT related functions as needed.

This opportunity is full-time during first/second shift depending on business needs.

The team lead coordinates, and participates in activities of the Courier Services. Oversee the transportation of time sensitive specimens and supplies between hospitals, medical centers, physician practices, buildings, and remote areas as necessary according to established guidelines. Operate vehicles when necessary. Schedule operations and coordinate the maintenance of vehicles.

Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

• Plan and schedule work for couriers ensuring sufficient coverage of routes.

• Ensure routine inspection of vehicles to make sure that they are in safe and proper operating condition; schedule maintenance and repairs for vehicles.
• Educate employees in the safe and proper operation of vehicles, transportation, and record keeping of time sensitive specimens.
• Monitor courier performance and provide follow-up instructions.
• Monitors and recommends discipline of couriers using established policies and procedures to assist management in reaching productivity goals.
• Communicates with clients to schedule appropriate services, obtain patient information, and give specimen status using interpersonal communication and organizational skills to assure excellent customer services.
• Routinely monitors AEL’s inventory and client supply fulfillment systems and processes.
• Maintains positive professional relationships with all clients and employees of AEL.
• Perform IT related functions as needed.

In This Role, You Will

• Perform a vital part of the patient care process by making sure that reports, records, supplies, and medical specimens are successfully transported between the laboratory and healthcare provider locations.
• Ensure proper specimen handling, transport, and safe operation of a motor vehicle – rain or shine!
• Interact with a variety of clients and commit to customer-focused service.
• Champion safety, compliance, and quality control.

All You Need Is

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• A valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record for the past three years.
• Confidence operating a vehicle in all weather and traffic conditions and navigating routine hazards of the road.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under time constraints, without close supervision.
• Physical capability of light to medium lifting (up to 50lbs).

Bonus Points If You’ve Got

• 2+ years of experience operating conventional vehicles for business purposes. This includes cars, trucks, and/or vans.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
