Job summary

La Plata County invites a collaborative County Manager with strong financial acumen to guide a growing rural-resort community. You will lead a talented workforce and help advance the Board’s priorities toward transparent, responsible government.

Reporting to the Board of County Commissioners, you will implement policy direction, oversee daily operations, coordinate department heads, and build trusted relationships with officials, residents, and partners.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in public or business administration.
• 8–10 years of increasingly responsible public/private sector experience.
• Minimum 5 years in senior management.
• Local government experience preferred.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

• Administers day-to-day county operations and implements Board direction.
• Maintains open board relations and prepares agendas and reports.
• Leads budgeting, financial oversight, and strategic planning.
• Directs executive staff recruitment and personnel management.
• Oversees public communications and external relations.
• Upholds accountability, transparency, and ethical governance.
• Performs additional duties as assigned and ensures statutory compliance.
