Nolan County is seeking a licensed County Jailer to perform inmate processing, security checks, and welfare monitoring in a 12-hour shift environment. The role includes maintenance of records and strict adherence to jail policies and procedures.
Ongoing duties cover movement control, meal and medication distribution, and responding to emergencies. Training and certification through TCOLE are required, with potential for state certification advancement after the academy and exam.
SALARY: $5,066.25 monthly or $29.23 per hour (after probationary period)
ANNUAL CERTIFIED SALARY: $60,795.00
Standard probationary period of 6 months during which time salary is reduced by $50.00 per month.
LICENSE REQUIRED: Must be fully licensed as a County Jailer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or meet all requirements to become "temporarily licensed" as a County Jailer within the first 12 months of employment. All temporary jailers are required to complete a 3-1/2-week training course at the West Central Texas Law Enforcement Academy to achieve Jailer/Detention Officer certification as mandated by TCOLE. Upon successful completion of the academy and the subsequent state examination, certified Jail/Detention Officer status is attained.
SHIFT: Standard 12-hour shifts, (5AM-5PM or 5PM-5AM) and an hour for meal break during each shift. May be required to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with varying days off as necessitated by operational requirements.
REGULAR PAY DAYS: Payday occurs biweekly (every two weeks) on Fridays, resulting in a total of 26 pay periods each calendar year. In instances where a payday coincides with a holiday or weekend, payroll will be processed on the business day preceding the holiday or weekend.
PAID OVERTIME: Overtime compensation is calculated at a rate of 1.5 times the standard hourly wage and is reflected in every paycheck. Additionally, a supplementary state grant amounting to $5,000.00 is factored into the total salary figure. The established base salary for the county is set at $ 54,169.74 .
RESIDENCY: Must reside within the boundaries of Nolan County, in an adjacent county or within one-hour maximum drive time that includes allowances for traffic and/or inclement weather.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Include the ability to react to physical confrontations and emergency situations quickly and effectively; perform tasks requiring dexterity and agility after running moderate distances; see and recall visual details; hear and understand speech and radio transmissions; visual acuity in both eyes correctable to 20/30 vision, normal color vision, good accommodation and no field deficits; recognize differences or changes in sound patterns, loudness or pitch; communicate clearly in person and via a police radio and/or phone; identify and distinguish smells of different materials; operate a computer (Windows); read/write (police reports, legal documents, etc.); perform multiple physical tasks simultaneously; qualify with a department authorized firearm and defensive weapons; wear required uniform articles and safety equipment for extended periods of time; wear and use a respirator; sit or stand for prolonged periods; walk, run, kneel, stoop, crawl and crouch; make precise and coordinated finger, hand and limb movements; maintain uniform, controlled hand-arm posture or movement; push, pull or drag an adult (averaging 5'6", 160 pounds); lift and carry boxes (average 50 pounds); use force to restrain/subdue others; be able to run, protect him/herself by employing defensive tactics, and administer first aid and work efficiently for long periods of time. Performance of these tasks can involve maximum physical exertion with little or no prior notice, and possibly for extended periods of time.
