Job summary

The City of Sioux Falls is seeking an Inside Sales Associate to assist customers with product information, recommendations, and transactions while keeping the store orderly. You will work closely with customers, contractors, and team members to ensure a smooth shopping experience.

Responsibilities include handling the POS system, stocking displays, and maintaining safety and cleanliness. Prior retail or customer service experience is preferred, with flexibility for rotating Saturday shifts.

Job description

The Inside Sales Associate position assists customers in providing product information, recommendations, processing transactions, and maintaining a clean and organized store environment. The Inside Sales Associate role will involve working closely with customers, contractors, and other store team members to ensure a smooth shopping experience and promote customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions include:

• Develop a general understanding of the construction materials, tools, and equipment available in the store.
• Assist customers in locating products, check inventory availability, and accurately process sales transactions using the store's point-of-sale system. Handle cash, credit card, and other payment methods efficiently.
• Greeting customers in a friendly and professional manner, assist them with product inquiries, provide recommendations based on their needs, and address any concerns or questions.
• Organize incoming merchandise shipments. Ensure displays are adequately stocked, labeled, and visually appealing.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized store environment by regularly tidying shelves, aisles, and displays. Monitor and report any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Assist with weekly inventory cycle counts ensuring accurate on hand and stock levels.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Education and Work Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Previous experience in customer service or retail environment is preferred.
• Previous experience with construction tools and equipment is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at a time and to walk and stand for extended periods of time
• Basic computer skills for operating the point-of-sale system and accessing product information.
• Flexibility to work rotating Saturday schedule (as applicable to the store location).
