Job summary

DSG is seeking a Plumbing & HVAC Counter/Inside Sales Associate in Pierre, SD. This full-time, hourly role supports customer orders and product inquiries, serves as a primary order facilitator, and helps grow overall plumbing & HVAC sales.

The position calls for strong customer service, product knowledge, and ERP familiarity. Working hours are typically 8am–5pm, Monday–Friday, with ESOP benefits and employee ownership driving our culture.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of college/technical school or 3–5 years field experience in Plumbing & HVAC products.
• Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
• Active listening to determine customer needs.
• Solid problem solving, project management and analytical abilities.
• Proficiency with computers; Eclipse or ERP experience.
• Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work.
• Physical ability to frequently lift 30–70 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary facilitator for customer orders.
• Assist customers professionally with product inquiries.
• Write (and occasionally help fill) orders accurately and promptly.
• Generate customer quotations and follow up on quotes.
• Provide troubleshooting and technical support.
• Collaborate with sales team to resolve customer service issues promptly.
• Restock the counter area by product brand and location.
• Monitor product inventory and remove damaged items.
• Maintain a clean, appealing counter display area.
• Identify and promote additional products as applicable.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

A Typical Day in the Life of a Plumbing & HVAC Counter/Inside Sales Associate at DSG:

• Serve as a primary facilitator for customer orders
• Assist customers in a professional manner with product inquiries
• Write (and occasionally assist to fill) orders accurately and in a timely manner
• Generate customer quotations and follow up on quotes requested
• Provide trouble-shooting and technical support
• Work with other sales team members to resolve customer service issues in a timely manner

A Successful Plumbing & HVAC Counter/Inside Sales Associate Typically Has:

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Product and technical knowledge normally acquired in two or more years of college or technical school OR 3-5 years field experience in the residential/commercial applications of Plumbing & HVAC products.
• Excellent relationship building skills.
• Outstanding interpersonal, customer service and communication skills across a variety of settings (in-person, phone, and email).
• Strong attention to detail, paired with the ability to multi-task.
• A knack for active listening to determine customer needs.
• Superior problem solving, project management, and analytical skills.
• A high proficiency with computers – experience in Eclipse or other ERP systems preferred.
• The ability to plan, prioritize and organize work effectively.
• The physical ability to frequently lift & load items weighing 30-70 pounds.
