Job summary

YMCA of the Triangle in Pittsboro, NC seeks a Youth Counselor to lead and build relationships with youth participants in our program. The role supports program goals and adheres to YMCA policies while fostering a safe, engaging environment.

The Youth Counselor will work under the Youth Site Director, facilitating developmentally appropriate activities and maintaining positive interactions with campers, parents, school staff, and YMCA colleagues.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Experience with children or teens preferred but not required.
• Experience in outdoor education, planning activities, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports or recreational games preferred.
• Specific certifications and/or training may be required.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Multilingual desired but not required.

• Adheres to YMCA policies including medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention and emergency management.
• Ensures space and equipment are cared for and left in good, clean condition daily.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and communicates clearly within area of responsibility.

POSITION SUMMARY:

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children or teenspreferredbutnot required.
• Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor education, planning andorganizing activities, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports, recreational games,etc.
