Job summary

Phoenix Rescue Mission in Texas seeks a compassionate counselor who builds meaningful relationships and supports recovery, trauma, and behavioral health in a residential setting. You will conduct intake, deliver individual and group interventions, and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team under supervision.

A Master’s degree in Counseling or related field is required, with knowledge of evidence-based practices and crisis intervention.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or related behavioral health field.
  • Knowledge of counseling theories, evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and recovery principles.
  • Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and risk assessment skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual counseling, psychoeducational groups, skills-based groups, and recovery-focused interventions under clinical supervision.
  • Conduct intake and biopsychosocial assessments and basic risk screenings under supervision.
  • Develop treatment plans under the oversight of a licensed supervisor and support clients toward established goals.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with case management and interdisciplinary teams to support coordinated client care.

YOUR TOP RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide individual counseling, psychoeducational groups, skills-based groups, and recovery-focused interventions under clinical supervision.
  • Conduct intake and biopsychosocial assessments and basic risk screenings under supervision.
  • Help clients identify goals, build motivation for change, and develop recovery-oriented coping skills.
  • Develop treatment plans under the oversight of a licensed supervisor and support clients in making progress toward established goals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with PRM standards, billing requirements, and clinical guidelines.
  • Monitor client attendance, progress, and engagement and communicate concerns to supervisory staff.
  • Collaborate with case management, residential operations, and interdisciplinary teams to support coordinated client care.
  • Support crisis intervention efforts by identifying concerns and promptly escalating safety issues to supervisory staff.
  • Participate in ongoing training, clinical supervision, and competency development in preparation for associate licensure.
  • Participate in client baptisms, graduations, devotions, prayers, and other organizational activities that promote a credible Christian witness and lifestyle.

Requirements

WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Meet Arizona Board of Behavioral Health minimum requirements to pursue associate licensure or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of counseling theories, evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and recovery principles.
  • Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and risk assessment skills.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, organization, and time management skills with the ability to manage a caseload and work effectively in a residential recovery environment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation, navigate electronic health record (EHR) systems, and uphold confidentiality, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to build effective therapeutic relationships, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and support the professional development of junior counseling staff.
  • Current AZ Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card with no restrictions, or eligibility to obtain with no restrictions.
  • A solid and credible Christian witness and lifestyle that exemplifies Christ in character and actions.
