Children of Promise NYC (CPNYC) in Brooklyn is seeking Part-Time After School Counselors to implement the CPNYC curriculum, helping school-age children improve literacy, values, and physical fitness in an activity-based environment.

You will assist planning, create age-appropriate activities, read stories, lead songs and games, maintain enrollment and attendance, and help with homework while supporting field trips and daily duties from 2PM to 6PM.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate degree or college credits; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic in working with youth.
  • Experience working with school-age children is beneficial.

CPNYC’s mission is to support and advocate for the children of incarcerated parents while speaking out against root causes that affect the communities we serve, including systemic racism, poverty. and bias in our nation’s criminal justice system. CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children’s centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. CPNYC provides an array of youth development programming and services tailored to each child’s individual strengths and challenges and fosters a unique uplifting environment to foster hope and resilience. CPNYC is seeking to hire Part-Time After School Counselors / Group Leaders for our Brooklyn location. Must be able to work Monday - Friday 2PM - 6PM

Essential Job Functions
  • Implement the CPNYC curriculum, helping school age children improve literacy competencies, values, and physical fitness in an activity-based environment.
  • Assist senior counselor with planning and creating innovative age-appropriate activities.
  • Develop lesson plans to conduct them daily; read, tell stories, lead songs and games.
  • Help maintain enrollment and daily attendance records.
  • Assist children with homework and guide students in their academic growth.
  • Other job-related duties as described in job description.
  • To conduct field trips or attend events, individuals will use public transportation or traverse city streets, occasionally ascend/descend stairs and exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • An employee is expected to stand 50% of during the shift.
  • Ability to work with youth and the general public.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skill and Experience
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree or college credits, with relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; areas of study; General Education (K-8), Special Education, Social Work, Teaching, Professional Child Care, Psychology, or related fields.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic in working with youth.
COMPENSATION

Commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. This position range is $18.00 - $25.00 per hour.
