Job summary

Harbor, Inc. in Toledo is seeking a Counselor Aide to provide direct client support in a trauma-informed residential substance use treatment setting. The role requires a High School Diploma, 2 years of relevant experience, and group facilitation skills.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: Two years of experience with persons diagnosed with substance use disorder and/or mental health concerns.
• Experience: At least one year of group facilitation experience.
• Licensure & Certifications: CDCA/LPC/LSW licensure must be obtained within 120 days of hire; CPR/First Aid and CPI/NCI within 90 days of employment.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field.

Responsibilities

• Maintains familiarity with the individualized care plan for clients and provides support accordingly.
• Assists clients in adjusting to treatment, offering emotional support, and helping with daily living activities.
• Facilitates group therapy activities and provides basic counseling and coping education.
• Provides crisis response care during moments of crisis or ambivalence.
• Maintains accurate, complete clinical records in a timely manner.
• Transports clients to activities per Harbor’s driving policies.
• Completes admissions and discharges for clients; completes housekeeping tasks and duty lists.

Job description

Harbor is seeking a Counselor Aide to join the Toledo team! This position is responsible for providing direct client support in support of safe, structured, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented residential substance use disorder treatment.

Due to the sensitive nature of the position and the need to protect the privacy and safety of female residents, this position is open to female applicants only. This is a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ) under Title VII.

Position is full-time, 40 hours per week.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• High School Diploma or GEDrequired.

Experience:

• Two yearsofexperience working with personsdiagnosed with substance use disorder and/or mental health concerns.
• At leastoneyear ofGroup Facilitation experience.

Licensureand Certifications:

• Chemical Dependency(CDCA)/Counseling(LPC)/Social Work(LSW)Licensuremust be obtained within120 daysof hire.
• CPR/First Aid and NCI/CPI Certificationsrequiredwithin90 daysof employment.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and show proof of personal auto insurance policy to bedeemedinsurable with Harbor’s vehicle insurance carrier.Must remain up to date on annual Defensive Driving for 15-Passenger Vans trainingrequirement.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a related behavioral/mental health field from an accredited college or university.

EssentialFunctions and PrimaryResponsibilities:

• Maintains familiarity withthe individualized care plan forclientsand providessupport toclientsaccording to the care plan. Contributesto the care planning process by providing the clinical team with specific information and observations of theclients’ needs and preferences.
• Assistsclients in adjusting to treatment, offering emotional support, and helping with daily living activities.
• Facilitatesgroup therapy activities, providing basic counseling and guidance, and educating clients on recovery principles and coping strategies.
• Providescrisis responsecare to clients during moments of crisis or ambivalence.
• Maintainsaccurate, complete, andappropriate clinicalrecordsin a timely manner.
• Performsall job responsibilitiesin accordance withprescribed safety and infection control procedures.
• Transportsclients to social activities or off-site engagementsas scheduled and per Harbor’s driving policies.
• Responsible for the completion of all scheduled tasks,includingcare ofclients and the facility (including maintenance tickets and cleaning).
• Participates in weekly supervision, training, and development programs to enhance knowledge, skills, and personal service network.
• Completesadmissions and discharges for all entering and exiting clients.
• Completeshousehold duties and work orders as outlined on the duty list for each shift.
• Completes initial and annual Relias Trainings.
• Understands andmaintainsprofessional boundaries in client interactions.
• Maintains courtesy and professionalism with staff and clients
