Job summary

Set Free Alaska is seeking a Counselor to join our award-winning behavioral health team in Wasilla. You will deliver direct outpatient substance abuse counseling to adult clients, helping them find hope and healing while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Qualifications include the ability to obtain Alaska CAC II or equivalent within 3 years, pass drug screen and background check, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• The ability to obtain Chemical Dependency Counselor II or QAP equivalent certification within 3 years
• Ability to pass a drug screen and Alaska background check

Responsibilities

• Develop written treatment plans using the client’s strengths and individualized treatment needs
• Prepare and conduct individual and group counseling sessions
• Attend weekly clinical treatment team meetings
• Provide case management and coordinate with collateral services

Qualifications

Required

• The ability to acquire Chemical Dependency Counselor II or QAP equivalent certification within 3 years of date of hire
• Ability to pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or closely related field
• Experience in substance abuse or mental health field including:
  • Delivering direct therapeutic services (group and individual)
  • Crisis intervention skills
  • Treatment planning and treatment team participation
  • Case management

• Understanding of being trauma informed and awareness of cultural differences
• The ability to:

Job responsibilities

• Develop written treatment plans using the client’s strengths and individualized treatment needs. Aid the client to participate in the development of this treatment plan and conduct treatment plan reviews as needed through the duration of treatment
• Prepare and conduct individual and group counseling sessions, structuring the sessions according to the needs, goals and individual strengths and limitations of each client
• Attend weekly clinical treatment team meetings
• Provide case management and work cooperatively with collateral services. Counselor I will refer clients to appropriate services as needed
