JOB TITLE

Counselor – Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds

Salary Range: $2,200–$2,825

ABOUT THE ROLE

Commonpoint is hiring a Counselor for Island Quest Day Camp. The Counselor will be part of a team responsible for planning and implementing a nurturing, educational environment that fosters optimal social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of campers. The role reports directly to the Group Leader.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Agency Expectations
  • Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, following established processes, and contributing to data collection and reporting as required.
  • Use agency resources responsibly, safeguarding equipment and materials, and supporting cost‑effective operations.
  • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross‑department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment.
  • Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff and campers, and promptly report concerns or incidents.
Role Expectations
  • Attend all pre‑camp orientations on May 31st, June 7th, June 14th, and June 28th.
  • Work all days – Monday through Friday, 8:30 am–4:00 pm, from June 29th to August 20th.
  • Help maintain an emotional and physical environment conducive to children’s optimal growth and safety, ensuring accurate counts of campers at all times.
  • Engage in appropriate camper/counselor interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES
Minimum Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of childcare experience.
  • Rising senior in high school or older.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a Commonpoint role.
  • Bilingual (preferred).
  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree (preferred).

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Commonpoint offers competitive base salaries benchmarked against comparable nonprofit organizations in the New York metropolitan area. Salaries are determined based on internal and external equity, each position’s scope, qualifications, and organizational impact. Salary offers are set according to established salary bands and are not subject to negotiation. New hires typically start near the beginning of the salary range to allow for growth based on performance, professional development, and tenure.

Working Conditions
  • Outdoor setting – prepare for lots of walking.
  • Exposure to loud noise or extreme heat.
  • Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping or swimming.
  • Late nights or overnights may be required depending on the group placement.
  • Bus transportation from local hubs offered.
