Job summary

Lyft is seeking a sharp, dynamic attorney with 5+ years of litigation and counseling experience to support our business at the intersection of law, policy, and technology. This role reports to a Director on the Litigation team and collaborates with multiple internal partners to minimize legal risk.

You will handle hands‑on litigation, regulatory disputes, and government investigations while guiding cross‑functional teams and managing outside counsel.

Qualifications

  • J.D. degree from a top-tier law school and active membership in at least one state bar.
  • 5+ years civil litigation experience at a mid to large size law firm and/or a regulatory agency.
  • Prior experience with regulatory disputes and government investigations, competition matters, and complex or consumer class actions is preferred.
  • Excellent problem‑solving capabilities, strategic thinking, judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Both detail oriented and able to see the big picture.
  • Ability to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a positive attitude to the workplace and is willing to jump on any project.
  • Executive presence and ability to communicate legal risks and recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions and influence through excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to think quickly on your feet and simultaneously manage workloads, multiple client demands and shifting priorities.
  • Be a resourceful self‑starter and have a passion for results. Embody Lyft’s culture, and operate with high standards and ethics
  • An understanding of the multi-modal transportation and ridesharing industries, as well as the sharing economy in general.

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility — meaning, hands‑on work, not just supervising outside counsel — for a wide variety of litigation matters, pre-litigation dispute resolution, internal counseling, and other legal disputes, with an emphasis on consumer litigation, regulatory disputes, government investigations, and competition.
  • Proactively approach all aspects of litigation, including discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, settlement negotiations, and trial and appellate strategies.
  • Work closely with internal business partners to provide strategic and proactive legal advice on litigation and regulatory matters, including but not limited to understanding, interpreting, and applying current law and regulations to Lyft’s current and prospective products and services.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to a broad range of cross‑functional teams addressing regulatory and other matters.
  • Provide legal guidance to departments such as Compliance, Public Policy, Communications, Customer Care, Product, Marketplace, and Lyft Urban Solutions to help craft solutions to the novel legal challenges Lyft faces every day.
  • Manage outside counsel, including tactical guidance, staffing, case management, budgeting, and alignment with Lyft’s broader legal strategy.

You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to multiple internal business partners, and your work to minimize legal risk to the Company will be core to the success of the organization. The successful candidate will be ethical, entrepreneurial and resourceful, skilled at building strong relationships, and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The expected base pay range for this position in the Nashville area is $144,320- $180,400 not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location.
