Job summary

Latitude is seeking an experienced environmental and regulatory attorney to join its in-house legal team on a contract, on-site basis in Houston, TX. This engagement supports refining and midstream operations with day-to-day compliance counseling and regulatory agency interactions.

Ideal candidates will have 8+ years in environmental and regulatory law within energy sectors such as oil and gas, with experience in due diligence and corporate or commercial transactions.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Texas or another U.S. state.
• 8+ years in environmental/regulatory law within energy sectors.
• Experience with day-to-day compliance counseling and advising business clients.
• Experience with governmental agency interactions and environmental due diligence.
• Working knowledge of federal/state environmental requirements (Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, CERCLA, NEPA, TSCA, RCRA, OSHA, PHMSA).
• Familiarity with air emissions, waste, water quality, wetlands and reporting matters.
• Strong research, writing, negotiation, collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office, SharePoint, document comparison tools, and AI-enabled tech.
• Outstanding professional references.

Counsel – Environmental & Regulatory (Contract / On-Site Houston)

A major energy company is seeking an experienced environmental and regulatory attorney to join its in-house legal team on a contract basis. This is a full-time, on-site engagement supporting refining and midstream operations with day-to-day compliance counseling, regulatory agency interactions, and environmental due diligence. If you have deep experience in environmental law within the energy, refining, petrochemical, or oil and gas sectors, this is an opportunity to do substantive work embedded with a sophisticated legal team.

Requirements for Counsel – Environmental & Regulatory:

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school
• Active license in good standing to practice law in Texas or another U.S. state
• 8+ years of experience in environmental and regulatory law, including experience supporting energy, refining, midstream, downstream, oil and gas, petrochemical, or similar industries
• Experience providing day-to-day compliance counseling and advising business clients on environmental and regulatory matters
• Experience with governmental agency interactions, enforcement resolution, environmental due diligence, and corporate or commercial transactions
• Working knowledge of applicable federal and state environmental and regulatory requirements, including the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, CERCLA/Superfund, EPCRA, NEPA, TSCA, RCRA, OSHA, PHMSA, and related fuels or renewable fuels requirements
• Familiarity with air emissions, industrial and hazardous waste, water quality, wetlands, endangered species, contaminated properties, PSM, RMP, and related reporting or registration matters
• Strong legal research, writing, communication, negotiation, collaboration, judgment, and organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, document comparison tools, and responsible use of AI-enabled legal technologies
• Outstanding professional references

Position Details of Counsel – Environmental & Regulatory:

• Type of role: Engagement (temporary)
• Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Assignment term: Approximately three months, with potential to extend
• Location: Houston, TX (On-site)

Compensation:

Pay: This contract position pays $90 to $100 per hour, which equates to an annualized range of approximately $187,200 to $208,000 when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract roles is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate's preference (each candidate's pay rate affects the client bill rate which can affect the candidate's competitiveness for the position).

Benefits
