Job summary

Denton Village by PureHealth in Denton, TX is seeking a PRN Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant to provide occupational therapy services under supervision of the OT, in compliance with state and federal regulations.

You will assess and treat patients, document progress, and collaborate with the health team to ensure a patient-focused plan. A Texas COTA license and teamwork in a post-acute setting are required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited COTA program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of COTA experience.
  • Valid State Appropriate COTA License.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, may contribute to patient assessment and treatment planning.
  • Provide intervention in line with the treatment plan and patient health needs.
  • Documentation of daily charges, progress notes, and reports in accordance with department standards.
  • Monitor therapeutic benefit and adjust treatment as indicated.
  • Educate patients and families, assess learning needs, and document accordingly.
  • Coordinate and communicate with health team to ensure a comprehensive patient picture.
  • Demonstrate competency in clinical skills for each unit annually.
  • Adjust schedules to department workload and maintain productivity, informing supervisor as needed.
  • Suggest input on program development, quality improvement, and budgets.

Position Summary

To provide occupational therapy services as assigned under the direction and supervision of the Occupational Therapist in accordance with PureHealth's policies and procedures and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, may contribute to the assessment of inpatients and outpatients in relation to their diagnosis

  • Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, may provide intervention in accordance to, and contribute to the treatment plan, which is patient focused and relevant to the actual and potential health problems of the customer

  • Documentation (daily charges, Progress Notes, and other reports) is complete, legible, accurate, timely and reflective of department standards

  • Therapeutic benefit of treatment is monitored and modified appropriately

  • Provides education at the level appropriate for each Customer and/or family's learning needs are assessed, addressed, and documented per department standards

  • Initiates, coordinates, and communicates collaborative efforts (provider updates, discharge planning) amongst health team members and other interested parties to show a comprehensive picture of the customer

  • Demonstrates competency in clinical skills and techniques specific to each unit on an annual basis

  • Organizes and adjusts schedule according to department work volume and customer caseload to maintain productivity Keeps immediate supervisor informed of ongoing activities or problems in regard to customer caseload in a timely manner

  • Provides input regarding department operational matters including but not limited to program development, quality improvement, facilities, planning, operational and capital budgets

  • Complies with laws and regulations applicable to position and act in accordance with Corporate Compliance Program, the licensing Board of Texas Healthcare and the American Occupational Therapy

Work Environment

This job operates in a post-acute setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the facility. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. Team member is expected to adhere to facility's no-smoking policy.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 60 pounds.

  • Sound clinical judgment relating to the provision of rehabilitation services

  • Collaboration with member of the interdisciplinary team in delivery of customer care to maximize functional outcomes

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers at all levels of the organization

  • Proficient computer and Microsoft Application Must have an ability to learn new systems

  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population

  • Must have positive communication skills and demonstrated adequate maturity and patience

  • Proficient in the English Excellent communication (verbal and written), customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Must have good organizational skills with attention to detail

  • Must be able to successfully prioritize workload, demonstrate initiative, and analyze situations to make sound decisions

  • Must show initiative and take action on observed needs

Required Education/Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited COTA program

  • A minimum of one (1) year of COTA experience

Required License/Certification
  • Valid State Appropriate COTA License
