Job summary

Fourth Floor in NYC is seeking a Costing Manager to lead product costing across categories and seasons, partnering with Merchandising, Sourcing and Finance to optimize margins.

You will analyze all cost components, drive cost-saving opportunities, and negotiate with factories to improve profitability. Strong Excel and ERP/PLM experience are required in this fast-paced apparel environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• 5+ years in costing, sourcing, production, merchandising, finance, or product development.
• Experience in apparel, accessories, footwear, or related manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of product cost structures, landed cost, and BOMs.
• Advanced Excel and ERP/PLM proficiency for cost analysis.

Responsibilities

Our client, an apparel company, is looking for a Costing Manager to join their team in NYC!

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development, review, approval, and management of product costing across categories, factories, customers, and seasons.
• Analyze and validate all cost components, including materials, trims, labor, overhead, packaging, testing, freight, and duty.
• Partner with Merchandising, Sales, Sourcing, and Finance to achieve target costs and margin objectives.
• Identify margin risks and recommend cost-saving opportunities through sourcing, negotiation, product engineering, and material optimization.
• Lead cost negotiations with factories and vendors to secure competitive pricing and improve profitability.
• Evaluate factory cost competitiveness and support sourcing decisions based on cost, capability, capacity, and delivery requirements.
• Oversee seasonal costing trackers, cost sheets, approvals, and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Collaborate with Design, Product Development, Production, and Sourcing teams to assess the cost impact of product and material changes.
• Develop and maintain costing reports, margin analyses, cost trend reporting, and historical cost databases.
• Drive continuous improvement of costing processes, systems, reporting, and team performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Product Development, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in costing, sourcing, production, merchandising, finance, or product development.
• Experience in apparel, accessories, footwear, consumer products, or a related manufacturing industry.
• Strong knowledge of product cost structures, including materials, labor, overhead, packaging, freight, duty, and landed cost.
• Proven experience conducting cost analysis, margin management, and profitability assessments.
• Experience negotiating pricing and cost reductions with domestic and/or overseas factories and vendors.
• Advanced Excel skills with experience using ERP, PLM, costing, or supply chain management systems.
• Ability to interpret BOMs, tech packs, product specifications, and factory cost sheets.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
