Help build the future of San Diego—one school, one schedule, and one budget at a time. We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost/Schedule Engineer to join our Facilities Planning and Construction team. In this role, you will be a key player in ensuring that our capital improvement projects—ranging from modernizing historic schools to building state-of-the-art STEAM labs—stay on budget and on time. You will bridge the gap between field operations and financial oversight, providing the data-driven insights necessary to deliver high-quality learning environments for San Diego’s students.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: 3–5 years of direct experience in project controls, cost engineering, or construction scheduling.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Primavera P6 (required).
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data visualization).
- Familiarity with Project Management software (e.g., e-Builder, Procore).
- Analytical Mindset: Ability to translate complex data sets into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on K-12 educational facilities or public works projects.
- Knowledge of California Division of the State Architect (DSA) requirements.
- Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP).
What You'll Do
- Project Scheduling: Develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project. You’ll perform Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis to identify potential delays before they happen.
- Cost Control & Forecasting: Monitor project expenditures against budgets. You will prepare monthly cash flow forecasts and "Estimate at Completion" (EAC) reports to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Change Order Management: Evaluate the cost and schedule impact of change orders. You’ll work closely with Project Managers to negotiate fair pricing and time extensions with contractors.
- Progress Reporting: Generate clear, concise visual reports for executive leadership, detailing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like Schedule Variance (SV) and Cost Variance (CV).
- Earned Value Management (EVM): Apply EVM principles to measure project performance and progress objectively.
