The Tsui Group is seeking a qualified and experienced candidate to join our aviation team as a Cost Estimator II - Airside in Los Angeles County with the following duties.
Essential Job Duties:
- Prepare independent cost estimates to support projects during planning, design, and construction.
- Review and prepare final engineer’s estimates, considering factors such as phasing, airport operations, shift, resources, time constraints, and badging impacts.
- Develop detailed, independent cost estimates from conceptual information and engineering drawings.
- Prepare detailed estimates including labor hours, material costs, and equipment costs.
- Provide constructibility reports to identify deficiencies and ambiguities and assist in developing credible cost budgets.
- Reconcile independent estimates with third-party estimates through collaborative communication.
- Analyze bids from vendors, contractors, and subcontractors, ensuring alignment with estimates.
- Identify factors influencing work costs and necessary field equipment.
- Present estimates to management and stakeholders.
- Review material take-offs and prepare component breakdowns of estimates.
- Evaluate historical cost data for future estimates.
- Review contracts and modifications to determine scope and cost implications.
- Perform other duties as required, including a hybrid/telework schedule.
Assist in Change Order negotiations including:
- Review and negotiate contractor change order claims.
- Ensure scope and pricing are fair and within contractual obligations.
- Develop negotiation documentation and provide independent estimates.
- Coordinate with project management and engineering teams.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 5 years of estimating experience related to engineering and construction projects.
- Experience with estimate reconciliation and change order negotiations.
- Ability to obtain independent estimates from vendors/contractors and negotiate effectively.
- Thorough knowledge of construction processes and industry practices.
- Results-oriented self-starter with effective communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple projects.
- Experience working with agencies such as FAA, LADBS, LADWP, etc.
Education/Training/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Certified Estimating Professional credential required.
Hardware and Software Experience:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoffs, and project management systems like Prolog.
