Job summary

Dexian is seeking a Cost Estimator to support dredging projects in Houston, TX. The role involves designing execution plans and developing cost estimates for hard bid opportunities, with mentorship from a seasoned estimating team.

Hybrid-4 days in office/1 day remote. You will review plans, produce concise presentations, and collaborate with Project Managers and support departments to ensure accurate, timely estimates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent with relevant work experience.
• 3 years of dredging/marine construction experience.
• 5 years of cost estimating experience in a comparable industry.
• Experience on marine construction projects (ports, channels, etc.).
• Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office suite.
• Willingness to travel on a limited basis.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with Power BI or similar software is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job Description

It all starts with Estimating! cost estimators serve a pivotal role in planning, design, and pricing of bids for future work. We believe a successful team is comprised of mentors and coaches who support one another in learning, sharing knowledge and expertise, and encouraging growth. As a Cost Estimator you will design execution plans and develop cost estimates for large-scale dredging projects, with the guidance and support of a team with decades of dredging experience. This position also provides a high-level of exposure to executive management with various growth opportunities. The position reports to the Vice President of Estimating.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent and relevant work experience
• Must possess at least one of the following:
• 3 years of relevant experience in the dredging and/or marine construction industry
• 5 years of relevant experience in a cost estimating position in a comparable industry
• Experience working on marine construction projects such as ports, channels, waterways, coastal restoration, beach nourishment, or shoreline protection.
• Exposure to dredging equipment such as hopper dredges, cutter suction dredges, mechanical dredges, barges, tugs, or other marine equipment.
• Field engineering experience involving quantities, production tracking, daily reports, surveying, material tracking, or assisting with project planning.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical information and project data.

• Effective communicator and attentive listener with excellent attention to detail.
• Self-starter with a willingness to learn and develop an understanding of dredging operations and cost estimating.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel on a limited basis during training.
• Analytical experience utilizing Power BI or similar software is a plus.
