Job summary

Dexian is seeking a Cost Estimator to design execution plans and develop cost estimates for large-scale dredging projects, with mentorship from a team of seasoned dredging professionals in Houston.

This hybrid role offers exposure to executive management, opportunities to support project managers during construction, and a path for growth within the Estimating group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent.
• 3+ years of relevant dredging/marine construction estimating experience or 5+ years in a cost estimating role.
• Experience on marine projects (ports, channels, waterways, coastal restoration).
• Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate cost estimates for hard bid projects.
• Review and summarize key elements of project plans and specifications.
• Produce clear overview drawings for presentation/discussion.
• Present the project and estimate during bid reviews with senior management.
• Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills in developing estimates.
• Collaborate with support departments in a team environment.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic setting.
• Provide estimating support to on-site Project Managers during execution.
• Update and monitor project costs, production, and budget during construction.

Job Description

It all starts with Estimating! cost estimators serve a pivotal role in planning, design, and pricing of bids for future work.

As a Cost Estimator you will design execution plans and develop cost estimates for large-scale dredging projects, with the guidance and support of a team with decades of dredging experience.

This position also provides a high-level of exposure to executive management with various growth opportunities. The position reports to the Vice President of Estimating.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate cost estimates for hard bid projects
• Review and summarize key elements of project plans and specifications
• Ability to produce clear, concise overview drawings for presentation and discussions
• Ability to present the project and estimate during bid review sessions with senior management
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability in the development of the estimate
• Work closely with various support departments in a team environment
• Capable of effective time-management, able to prioritize various project tasks simultaneously.
• Offer estimating support to on-site Project Managers during execution of project
• Update and monitor project costs, production, and budget throughout construction.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent and relevant work experience
• Must possess at least one of the following:
• 3 years of relevant experience in the dredging and/or marine construction industry
• 5 years of relevant experience in a cost estimating position in a comparable industry
• Experience working on marine construction projects such as ports, channels, waterways, coastal restoration, beach nourishment, or shoreline protection.
• Exposure to dredging equipment such as hopper dredges, cutter suction dredges, mechanical dredges, barges, tugs, or other marine equipment.
• Field engineering experience involving quantities, production tracking, daily reports, surveying, material tracking, or assisting with project planning.

• Field engineering experience involving quantities, production tracking, daily reports, surveying, material tracking, or assisting with project planning.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical information and project data.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and proficiency in standard Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
• Effective communicator and attentive listener with excellent attention to detail.
• Self-starter with a willingness to learn and develop an understanding of dredging operations and cost estimating.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel on a limited basis during training.
• Analytical experience utilizing Power BI or similar software is a plus.
