Job summary

Paycom is seeking a Cost Estimator for the Precast Concrete Division at our Rothschild, WI location. You will analyze drawings, specs, and bid documents to prepare accurate, competitive estimates of material, labor, equipment, and production costs while upholding company standards and profitability.

You will collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Project Management to support bid preparation, value engineering opportunities, and timely project turnover from estimating

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of estimating experience in precast concrete or related industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specs and bid documents.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience with estimating software and ERP systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for precast concrete products and custom project opportunities.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements to determine scope and pricing.
  • Calculate material, labor, equipment, freight, and production costs for estimates.
  • Develop detailed quotations and proposals that align with company pricing standards and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Drafting, Production, and Purchasing to evaluate project feasibility, constructability, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate vendor and supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value engineering opportunities during estimating.
  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and pricing records.
  • Respond to customer questions regarding estimates, project scope, and pricing clarifications.
  • Participate in project turnover meetings to ensure smooth transition from estimating to production.
  • Monitor bid opportunities and ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to enhance estimating processes, accuracy, and efficiency.

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for projects within the Precast Concrete Division. The Cost Estimator analyzes project plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine material, labor, equipment, and production costs while ensuring estimates align with company standards and profitability objectives. This role collaborates with Sales, Drafting, Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Project Management to support successful project bidding, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. Accurate cost analysis, and cross-functional communication are central to the success of this position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for precast concrete products and custom project opportunities.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements to determine project scope and pricing.
  • Calculate material, labor, equipment, freight, and production costs for estimates.
  • Develop detailed quotations and proposals that align with company pricing standards and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Drafting, Production, and Purchasing to evaluate project feasibility, constructability, and manufacturing requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Three to five years of estimating experience in precast concrete, construction, manufacturing, or a related industry preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, architectural plans, engineering specifications, and bid documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing material, labor, and equipment cost estimates.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using estimating software, ERP systems, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar construction estimating tools is preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Solid core values with a commitment to customer service, quality, and continuous improvement.
PREFERRED
  • Experience estimating precast concrete, architectural concrete, site furnishings, or custom concrete products.
  • Knowledge of precast manufacturing processes, production methods, and installation practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems, CAD software, Bluebeam, or other construction estimating platforms.
  • Understanding of PCI standards, specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Experience with public works, commercial construction, or DOT projects.
  • Familiarity with value engineering and cost optimization strategies.
  • Manufacturing or construction industry experience.
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience.
