Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Cost Engineer - MEP/Dry Mechanical to support large-scale construction projects in the data center and advanced manufacturing space. You will review and validate contractor change orders related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes, using Procore to verify costs, drawings, and schedules.

The role requires strong cost analysis, experience with MEP systems, and ability to challenge contractor pricing while maintaining budgets and financial accuracy on onsite

Qualifications

• 3+ years reviewing, validating, and managing construction change orders in drywall/mechanical (MEP) scopes.
• Experience on large commercial/industrial/semiconductor/data-center construction projects.
• Hands-on with Bluebeam Revu for drawing review, takeoffs, scope verification, CO validation.
• Ability to evaluate CO requests for labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and schedule impacts on MEP systems.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction including HVAC, piping, ductwork, switchgear, controls.
• Experience reviewing drawings, specs, RFIs, submittals and contracts to validate CO pricing and scope.
• Advanced Excel for cost tracking, reporting, and financial analysis.
• Collaborate with contractors, PMs, construction managers, and project controls to resolve cost discrepancies.

Responsibilities

• Review and validate contractor change order requests related to MEP/Dry Mechanical scopes.
• Use Procore to evaluate changes, verify labor and material costs, and review drawings and specs.
• Analyze schedule impacts and ensure pricing aligns with contractual requirements.
• Work with project managers, subcontractors, and controls teams to identify cost risks and resolve discrepancies.
• Provide recommendations for CO approval and cost-saving opportunities.

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of experience reviewing, validating, and managing construction change orders within Dry Mechanical / Plumbing (MEP) scopes
• Experience supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, semiconductor, or data center construction projects
• Hands-on experience utilizing Bluebeam Revu for drawing review, quantity takeoffs, scope verification, and change order validation
• Proven ability to evaluate contractor change order requests for labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and schedule impacts related to MEP systems
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing construction systems, including HVAC, piping, ductwork, electrical distribution, switchgear, controls, and plumbing infrastructure
• Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and contract documents to validate change order pricing and scope impacts
• Strong cost analysis and estimating experience with the ability to challenge contractor pricing and identify cost-saving opportunities
• Advanced Excel skills for cost tracking, reporting, and financial analysis
• Experience collaborating with contractors, project managers, construction managers, and project controls teams to resolve cost discrepancies and drive change order resolution

This individual will spend the majority of their time reviewing and validating contractor change order requests related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes. On a daily basis, they will utilize Procore to evaluate change orders, verify labor and material costs, review drawings and specifications, analyze schedule impacts, and ensure pricing is aligned with contractual requirements. They will work closely with project managers, construction teams, subcontractors, and project controls personnel to identify cost risks, resolve pricing discrepancies, and provide recommendations for change order approval. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of MEP construction systems and is comfortable challenging contractor pricing while maintaining project budgets and financial accuracy.
