Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Manager, Cost Engineering in Irvine, CA to recruit and lead a remote team of Cost Engineers in Mexico. You will develop full-vehicle should-cost capabilities and drive engineering change costing, serving as a strategic link between US‑based and Mexico‑based teams.

The role requires strong cost‑engineering expertise, cross‑functional leadership, and hands‑on cost modeling across vehicle systems, with opportunities for performance bonuses and equity awards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Systems, Electrical), Supply Chain, or a related field required.
• 2+ years of team leadership experience preferred
• 6+ years of relevant experience at an OEM, Tier 1 Manufacturer, Contract Manufacturer, Consumer Electronics, or similar company
• Proven experience in manufacturing processes to support cost model development of lighting components, electrical motors, connectors, displays, wiring harnesses, PCBA‑based electrical components, or semiconductor fabrication
• Proficiency navigating CAD models in CATIA or similar software
• Ability to interpret and understand design and manufacturing drawings
• Practical knowledge of Value Analysis/Value Engineering techniques and strong understanding of financial principles
• Detail‑oriented, flexible, and resilient entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to thrive in a start‑up environment
• Strategic thinker with excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Spanish language proficiency is preferred

Responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, and onboard a full-time Cost Engineer team based in Mexico and manage cross‑functional collaboration.
• Proactively manage task completion and provide regular project status updates.
• Define milestones and identify risks to ensure timely delivery of cost models.
• Develop should‑cost models, support tear‑downs and benchmarking, and drive cost‑optimization initiatives.
• Establish training programs and standardized methodologies to upscale the team.
• Oversee cost modeling across major vehicle systems and validate estimates.
• Drive ECR cost impact assessments and coordinate with global cost engineering leadership.
• Provide guidance to design engineers to meet target costs.
