Recru Cost Analyst in Houston, TX monitors and controls project spending, develops forecasts, and ensures compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements to support project success. Works closely with project managers and leadership to identify cost variances and recommend mitigation measures to keep projects on track.
Responsibilities include creating and updating forecast reports, reviewing invoices and change orders, and developing ad-hoc cost analyses and reports for KPIs.
Cost Analyst monitors and controls project spending, develops forecasts and reports, and ensures compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements to support project success. Works closely with project managers and leadership to identify cost variances and recommend mitigation measures.
Collaborate with project managers to track and monitor project spending
Create and update forecast cost reports, including monthly, current, and future year spend, and update cost reporting tools such as KMBF, QBR, and MPR
Identify mitigation measures for supplemental funding requests; review invoices and change orders; communicate with vendors to resolve outstanding issues
Identify cost overruns; monitor contingency and project completion dates; submit completion reports
Review project costs for compliance with regulatory and company guidelines, ensuring proper GAAP and FERC classification
Report and analyze significant cost variances, trends, and irregularities, documenting primary drivers
Calculate and research accurate project accruals; maintain documentation
Write AFE/PRN and monitor the review and approval process
Develop ancillary and ad-hoc reports for OSG KPI and data requests; support cost review meetings
Participate in management-led budget and forecast meetings
Participate in occasional special projects, including on-site support
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, Engineering, or applicable experience
Strong aptitude in financial and cost areas related to project cost controls and a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
Understanding and ability to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls
Outstanding analytical skills and strong attention to detail for producing an accurate work product
Highly competent with Microsoft Excel
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and balance needs of multiple stakeholders while managing multiple projects with competing deadlines
Independent worker with good organization skills
Exceptional communication skills, including ability to create and maintain productive relationships with teammates and internal customers
Experience working with project managers in cost control, forecasting, accruals, and report creation
Familiarity with Lawson or other ERP system to assist in data analysis
Occasional overtime required to meet critical deadlines and handle special project assignments
