Job summary

LHH is partnered with a growing organization in the Portland area in the search for a Cost Accounting Manager. This is a newly created, hands-on role with significant ownership and the opportunity to build and improve the company’s inventory and cost accounting processes.

Location: Portland, OR | Primarily onsite initially with some travel required. The role emphasizes inventory valuation, COGS analysis, and close collaboration with Operations and Supply Chain to improve margins and controls.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of inventory and/or cost accounting experience.
• Experience with inventory valuation, COGS, reconciliations, reserves, and related accounting.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work through complex or imperfect data.
• Hands-on, self-starter mentality with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions.
• Ability to partner with Accounting, Operations, Supply Chain, and other business teams.
• Experience in distribution, manufacturing, service, or inventory-intensive environments preferred.
• Strong Excel and ERP experience.

Responsibilities

• Own inventory valuation and reconciliations, cost accounting, reserves, COGS and margin analysis, and related controls.
• Work with operational teams to understand inventory movement and resolve discrepancies at source.
• Build and improve processes and controls; increase visibility around inventory and margins as the organization evolves.

• Ability to partner effectively with Accounting, Operations, Supply Chain, and other business teams

The Role

As Cost Accounting Manager, you’ll become the internal accounting expert around inventory and costing within a growing, multi-location organization.

You’ll take ownership of inventory valuation and reconciliations, cost accounting, excess and obsolete reserves, COGS and margin analysis, and related controls and processes. You’ll also work closely with operational teams to understand how inventory moves through the business and help resolve discrepancies at their source.

A big part of the opportunity is building and improving. You’ll evaluate the current environment, identify gaps, develop stronger processes and controls, and help create more visibility around inventory and margins as the organization continues to evolve.

This could be an especially good fit for someone who enjoys being hands-on and close to the business, rather than operating solely from behind a desk, and wants the opportunity to take ownership of an important area and make a meaningful impact.

Our client is an established, growing organization with operations across multiple locations. The business has a meaningful inventory environment and is continuing to invest in its accounting, finance, and operational infrastructure.

The accounting team works closely with operational leadership, creating an opportunity for this person to build relationships across the organization and have visibility beyond traditional accounting responsibilities

The Package

• Bonus: 10-20% target
