Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Cost Accountant to provide financial and accounting support for developing and overseeing service center rates. You will review expenditure data to ensure rates reflect actual costs and service usage.

Responsibilities include analyzing financial data, validating interdepartmental requests, preparing data for rate worksheets, and documenting workpapers for senior management review.

Qualifications

• Education or professional experience in accounting, auditing, or cost analysis, including cost studies.
• Proficient with Excel (pivot tables, formulas) and Access for data aggregation.
• Strong analytical skills to reconcile and evaluate financial data accurately.
• Ability to interpret state, federal, and university policies and guidelines.
• Judgment and independent decision-making within established procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for customer service.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze service center financial data to support rate development and monitoring.
• Review ISRs to ensure rates are applied correctly and documentation is complete.
• Assist staff in gathering data for rate development worksheets.
• Analyze service center costs and propose rates with supporting workpapers.
• Maintain organized electronic records and proper documentation retention.
• Support special projects advancing university financial management.
