Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to support manufacturing operations through cost tracking, inventory valuation, financial reporting, and operational analysis. This individual will play an important role in monitoring manufacturing expenses, analyzing cost variances, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and identifying opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will have a background in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with accounting, production, procurement, and operations teams to support informed business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze manufacturing costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead.

• Maintain accurate cost accounting records and ensure proper allocation of manufacturing expenses.

• Perform standard-versus-actual cost variance analysis, investigate discrepancies, and recommend corrective actions.

• Evaluate cost drivers and identify opportunities to improve profitability and cost management.

Inventory Management

• Oversee inventory accounting and valuation for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.

• Perform inventory reconciliations and support physical inventory counts.

• Investigate inventory discrepancies and implement corrective measures.

• Analyze inventory turnover and partner with production teams to optimize inventory levels and minimize carrying costs.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare cost reports and financial analyses related to manufacturing operations, cost of goods sold (COGS), gross margins, and profitability.

• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes.

• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.

• Provide management with insights into manufacturing costs, financial performance, and operational trends.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Assist with annual budgets and financial forecasts related to manufacturing costs.

• Monitor actual results against budget and investigate significant variances.

• Provide cost analysis and recommendations to support financial planning and decision-making.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

• Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.

• Develop and implement best practices to streamline accounting procedures.

• Maintain appropriate financial controls and documentation to support compliance and audit readiness.

• Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with production, procurement, and operations teams to understand manufacturing cost drivers.

• Communicate financial findings and provide actionable recommendations.

• Support operational decision-making through timely and accurate financial analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• 3-5 years of cost accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, manufacturing processes, and inventory management.

• Experience with accounting and reporting systems such as Dynamics SL, Crystal Reports, Workfront, or similar platforms.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with accounting, production, procurement, and operations teams.
