Job summary

Northern Engraving Corporation seeks a Cost Accountant to analyze inventory and production costs, support margin analysis, and allocate costs to activities. The role develops data systems, standard costs, and absorption rates while coordinating physical inventory and month-end closing.

The ideal candidate has at least five years in manufacturing cost accounting, bilingual in Chinese and English, and strong analytical and communication skills to partner with plant floor to upper management.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field (Bachelor's preferred).
  • Minimum of five years manufacturing cost accounting experience.
  • Bilingual Chinese and English.
  • Advanced critical thinking and analytic skills to develop recommendations and solutions.
  • Knowledge of standard costing and associated rates with the ability to develop a cost accounting system with verifiable and accurate reporting.
  • Ability to work with varying skill levels across functions and departments from plant floor to upper management.
  • Team-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ongoing analysis of inventory, production costs, margin, and tracing costs to activities.
  • Construct and monitor cost-accumulation systems and data reporting.
  • Develop and maintain absorption rates by plant and work center including labor and overhead costs.
  • Coordinate physical inventory and cycle counts, investigate variances and resolve issues.
  • Perform month-end tasks for inventory, material costs, margin analysis, and plant financial analysis.
  • Locate, manage, and dispose of obsolete inventory.
  • Perform production walks to understand processes, variances, and cost build-ups.

Overall Purpose of PositionThe Cost Accountant provides ongoing analysis of inventory, costs associated with production, margin analysis, and associating costs to related activities. Provides current and accurate information required to make solid business decisions related to production, inventory management, and product pricing.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOngoing analysis of inventory, production costs, margin, and tracing costs back to underlying activities and driversConstructs and monitors cost-effective data accumulation systemsDevelops and reviews the controls necessary for data accumulation and reporting systemsDevelops and maintains absorption rates by plant and work center including labor and overhead costsCoordinates physical inventory and cycle counts, investigating variances and resolving associated issuesMaintains standard costs and reviews standard and actual costs for inaccuracies including variance analysis, treating these in accordance with GAAPDevelops meaningful and comprehensive reporting packages to provide current and accurate information to provide leadership with data necessary to make solid business decisions related to production, inventory management, and pricingPerforms month end tasks associated with inventory, material costs, margin analysis, and plant financial analysis including adjustment, summary schedules, and reconciliationLocates, manages, and disposes of obsolete inventoryPerforms production walks at manufacturing facilities to understand processes, variances, reporting errors, and interpretation of cost build-upsAssists with general accounting tasks and other duties/projects as assignedSkills and QualificationsMinimum of Associate's Degree in Accounting or related field, Bachelor's preferredMinimum of five (5) years of manufacturing cost accounting experienceBilingual Chinese and EnglishAdvanced critical thinking and analysis skills to develop recommendations and solutionsKnowledge of standard costing and associated rates with the ability to develop a cost accounting system with verifiable and accurate reportingAbility to work well with varying skill levels in multiple functions/departments (plant floor to upper management)Desire to work in a team oriented environment with excellent verbal and written communication skills#NEIND1
