Job summary

Chromalox is seeking a Cost Accountant to support profitability initiatives in a manufacturing environment. You will oversee cost analysis, inventory reporting, and BOM/routing maintenance while collaborating with Finance, Operations, Engineering, Procurement and Supply Chain.

The role emphasizes standard costing, cost updates, and analytical decision support to drive efficiency and financial performance. A manufacturing background and strong Excel skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Manufacturing experience required, preferably supporting engineered-to-order operations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, procurement and supply chain.
  • Understand BOMs, routings, labor reporting, standard costing and overhead allocation.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems (JDE, SAP, Oracle or similar).
  • Advanced Excel and MS Office skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a drive for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage standard cost updates, annual cost roll processes, BOMs and routings.
  • Provide inventory reporting/analysis to support decisions and improvements.
  • Prepare detailed inventory reporting, obsolescence analysis, cycle counts, and reconciliation.
  • Perform financial analysis for projects, products and operations.
  • Maintain financial databases, reporting tools and data integrity.
  • Support procurement and supply chain through cost analysis.
  • Analyze productivity and operational performance metrics for improvements.
  • Interpret data and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and audits.
  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc finance initiatives.

Job description

The Cost Accountant is a key member of the finance team responsible for supporting profitability improvement initiatives and overseeing financial and cost analysis activities within a manufacturing environment. This role plays an important part in helping the organization meet its financial objectives by providing accurate cost information, inventory insights, and analytical support for strategic and operational decision-making.

The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting principles, experience working in a manufacturing setting, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Finance, Operations, Engineering, Procurement, and Supply Chain. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to operational efficiency, financial performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage standard cost updates, including annual cost roll processes and maintenance of Bills of Material (BOMs) and routing data to ensure accurate cost tracking and inventory valuation.
  • Provide inventory management reporting and analysis to support business decisions, identify trends, and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare detailed inventory reporting, including inventory obsolescence analysis, cycle count accuracy, and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Perform financial analysis for projects, products, and operations, including variance analysis and profitability assessments.
  • Maintain and enhance financial databases, reporting tools, and data integrity processes to ensure timely and accurate information.
  • Support procurement and supply chain teams through analytical reporting and cost analysis to improve purchasing effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Analyze productivity and operational performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Interpret complex financial and operational data and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and audit requirements.
  • Assist with special projects, ad hoc analysis, and other finance-related initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment is required, with a strong preference for experience supporting engineered-to-order (ETO) operations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, procurement, and supply chain teams to support manufacturing and cost-focused decision-making.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, labor reporting, standard costing, and overhead allocation methodologies.
  • Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems such as JD Edwards (JDE), SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to interpret, synthesize, and communicate complex financial information.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Pay Range

$85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
