Job summary

Specified Technologies Inc. (STI) in Burlington, NJ is seeking a Cost Accountant to partner with plant leadership, operations, supply chain and finance. Hybrid role with four days in the office, focusing on standard costs, variances, inventory valuation, and month-end close.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Accounting and 3–5 years of cost accounting in manufacturing, with strong Excel and ERP skills. CMA/CPA is a plus and the company offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• 3–5 years of cost accounting in manufacturing or industrial settings.
• Understanding of WIP, overhead allocation, BOMs and production reporting.
• Advanced Excel and ERP proficiency; GAAP and internal controls knowledge.
• CMA or CPA a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead in the ERP system.
• Analyze material, labor, overhead, purchase price, and production variances with explanations for management.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory, COGS, and manufacturing accounts.
• Monitor WIP, raw materials, finished goods valuation and obsolescence reserves.
• Participate in physical inventory counts and cycle counts, including reconciliation and reporting.
• Prepare periodic reports on costs, margins and productivity for plant and finance teams.
• Partner with operations, engineering, procurement, and supply chain to review cost drivers and improve costing accuracy.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing costs, inventory, plant labor and overhead.
• Design inventory production flow and work with IT to integrate production flow into ERP.
• Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen cost controls and reporting quality.
• Participate in new product costing at engineering and manufacturing levels, including BOM development.
• Provide non-manufacturing cost accounting support for freight, warehousing and tariffs.

Role Description

We’re seeking a Cost Accountant who will be responsible for analyzing, tracking, and reporting manufacturing costs to support accurate financial reporting and informed operational decision‑making. Partners closely with plant leadership, operations, supply chain, and finance to maintain standard costs, monitor inventory, investigate variances, support month-end close, participate in annual budgeting and forecasting and identify opportunities to improve profitability and cost control.

This is a hybrid role based at our Burlington, NJ Manufacturing and Warehouse Facility with an expectation of four days per week in the office.

What You’ll Do:

• Maintain and periodically update standard costs for raw materials, labor, and overhead in the ERP system.
• Analyze material, labor, overhead, purchase price, and production variances and provide clear explanations to management.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing accounts.
• Monitor work-in-process, raw materials, and finished goods valuation and obsolescence reserve to ensure accuracy.
• Participate in and support physical inventory counts and cycle count programs, including reconciliation and reporting.
• Prepare periodic reports for plant and financial needs on costs, margins and productivity.
• Partner with operations, engineering, procurement, and supply chain to review cost drivers and improve costing accuracy.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing costs, inventory, and plant labor and overhead costs.
• Design inventory production process flow and partner with IT Department to integrate production flow accurately into our ERP System.
• Identify and recommend process improvements to strengthen cost controls, reporting quality, and operational efficiency.
• Participate in the process of new product costing at both the engineering and manufacturing levels including the development of applicable bills of materials.
• Provide additional non-manufacturing cost accounting financial support for critical areas such as freight, warehousing and tariffs.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Experience

• 3-5 years of cost accounting in a manufacturing or industrial environment
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, including work-in-process, overhead allocation, physical inventory, cycle counts, BOMs, routings and production reporting

Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems. Knowledge of Acumatica and/or Netstock a plus.
• Knowledge of GAAP and internal control requirements
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• CMA or CPA is a plus

Compensation -The pay range for this role is $105,000–$110,000 per year
