Charm Sciences, Inc. in Andover, MA is seeking a Cost Accountant to maintain inventory and cost records, support standard costing, variance analysis, and in-depth cost reviews across Materials, Production and Purchasing.
You will collaborate cross-functionally to drive inventory control, a timely month-end close, and internal controls, while ensuring GAAP compliance.
Overview The Cost Accountant is a professional-level position that reports to the Assistant Controller and is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of inventory and cost accounting records. This role supports financial reporting, inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory control activities while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. The Cost Accountant works closely with Materials, Production, Purchasing, and other cross-functional departments to analyze costs, investigate variances, support inventory management initiatives, and provide financial insight to support operational and business objectives. The position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audit requirements, and driving continuous improvement in accounting and inventory processes. Applicable Laws. Essential Functions Analyze Cost Accounting Data And provide financial analysis related to inventory, manufacturing costs, and operational performance. Maintain and monitor standard costs, including review and analysis of cost changes and cost structures. Perform inventory accounting activities, including inventory valuation, reconciliations, and transaction review. Reconcile inventory-related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies. Support and participate in cycle count programs, annual physical inventories, and inventory audits. Analyze inventory variances, production variances, and cost trends; identify root causes and recommend corrective actions. Research, compile, analyze, and interpret financial and operational data to support decision-making. Prepare monthly inventory, cost, and variance reports for management review. Assist with month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory and cost accounting. Collaborate with Materials, Production, Purchasing, and Quality departments to resolve inventory and costing issues. Support internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules, documentation, and analysis. Identify opportunities for process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls. Serve as the primary backup for Accounts Payable functions as needed.
