Job summary

Magnesium Elektron in Illinois is seeking a Cost Accountant to assist in inventory management and the cost accounting process. The successful candidate will report directly to the Inventory Control Manager and work closely with Supply Chain and Sales Planning.

Key responsibilities include month-end inventory valuation, general ledger reconciliations, and data analysis for purchasing. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and 3–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

The Cost Accountant will report directly to the Inventory Control Manager.

We are seeking an independent self‑starter to assist in the day‑to‑day inventory management and Cost Accounting process. This position will work with Inventory Control assisting with the tracking and valuation of inventory. The role involves the Supply Chain and Sales & Operations Planning processes, performing data analysis for purchasing requirements. Costing activities include variance and standard cost evaluation and assisting in the monthly close.

• Month‑end valuation of inventory
• General ledger inventory and COGS account reconciliations
• Obsolete and slow‑moving inventory reserve calculations
• Physical inventory and cycle‑count reconciliation and metrics
• Aid in ABC models and monthly inventory forecasting
• Tracking and researching monthly variances (PPV, work order variances, etc.)
• Analyze month, quarter, and annual variances to actual, budget, forecast, and strategic sales data
• Provide external and internal audit support
• Assist with quarter and annual reports

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Skills, and Work Experience Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or a related field required
• 3–5 years of experience with a deep background in costing
• Experience with Microsoft Office Products
• Advanced Excel skills required with full understanding of pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, charts and graphs
• Ability to organize work into priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy required

Work Experience and/or Qualification Preferences:

• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment with cost accounting, production planning or inventory control background preferred
• Experience with an MRP/ERP system a plus
• Ability to work in both a manufacturing and an office environment
• Strong ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Strong ability to multi‑task and manage own time efficiently
• Must have the physical ability to travel within a large‑scale plant
