New Jersey Resources Corp. is seeking a Corrosion Technician II to design, coordinate, maintain, and monitor cathodic protection systems for distribution mains and services.

The role supports regulatory compliance and system integrity through field inspections and documentation. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3–5 years of experience in cathodic protection or utility operations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in cathodic protection, corrosion control, or utility operations.
  • AMPP (NACE) certs preferred.
  • Familiarity with natural gas distribution systems and safety requirements.
  • Proficient with GIS/GPS and ESRI ArcGIS; proficient with Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor cathodically protected gas mains and services for corrosion control program effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Inspect and coordinate repair of cathodic protection components; diagnose shorts and system deficiencies.
  • Assist design, installation, testing and maintenance of cathodic protection equipment (rectifiers, test stations, bonds, anodes).
  • Evaluate system performance and recommend corrective actions to maintain integrity of distribution facilities.
  • Prepare system records, inspection docs, and regulatory reports; support submissions to agencies (e.g., BPU).
  • Coordinate construction permits for corrosion control projects; provide field support to engineers and technicians.

New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, is seeking a Corrosion Technician II to design, coordinate, maintain, and monitor cathodic protection systems for distribution mains and services in accordance with company policies and applicable federal regulations. Ensure system integrity, regulatory compliance, and the timely and accurate maintenance of cathodic protection records and documentation.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Monitor cathodically protected gas distribution mains and services to ensure the effectiveness of corrosion control programs and compliance with company standards and federal regulations.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and coordinate the repair of damaged or malfunctioning cathodic protection system components, including diagnosing shorts, breaks, and other system deficiencies.
  • Assist in the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of cathodic protection equipment, including rectifiers, test stations, bonds, and anodes.
  • Evaluate cathodic protection system performance and recommend corrective actions to maintain the integrity of steel distribution facilities.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate system records, inspection documentation, and regulatory reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation for submission to regulatory agencies, including the BPU.
  • Coordinate and obtain construction permits from state, county, and municipal agencies as required for corrosion control and cathodic protection projects.
  • Provide technical support and field assistance to Corrosion Engineers, Corrosion Technicians, and other operations personnel.
  • Support corrosion control initiatives and special projects that contribute to the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of the gas distribution system.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physical Sciences, or a related field preferred. Relevant combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in cathodic protection, corrosion control, utility operations, or a related technical field. Experience with natural gas distribution systems is preferred.
  • AMPP (formerly NACE) certification or related cathodic protection credentials preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cathodic protection principles, corrosion control practices, and applicable pipeline safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with natural gas distribution systems and associated safety requirements, including an understanding of the hazards of natural gas.
  • Proficiency with GIS/GPS technology and Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel; experience with ESRI ArcGIS preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, specifications, maps, and technical documents.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both office and field environments.
  • Must meet Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements as defined under 49 CFR Part 192, Subpart N.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record required.

This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's (PHMSA) regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.

Other Details:

Compensation: Expected base pay range for this role will be $59,000- $79,500.
Base pay is based on several factors including, experience, skills, and knowledge.

This role will be eligible to participate in an annual short term incentive program.
