Job summary

NorthWestern Energy is seeking a Gas Transmission Corrosion Technician to perform corrosion control tasks across Montana's gas system. You will inspect and remediate corrosion, conduct cathodic surveys, and manage related data in PCS database while traveling to multiple sites.

The role requires awareness of safety standards, the ability to obtain AMPP/NACE certifications, and a strong commitment to regulatory compliance. Regular full-time employment with competitive benefits is offered.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of corrosion fundamentals.
  • Ability to inspect, monitor, and remediate atmospheric, external, and internal corrosion on NWE pipelines.
  • Become proficient in cathodic assessment surveys, such as: pipe to soil, atmospheric, CIS, ACVG, DCVG, coating conductance, Current Mapping, Soil Resistivity, and leak detection.
  • Familiar with ILI assessments and verification of anomalies in the field
  • Comprehension on the requirements, assessment and ability to install and maintain cathodic bonds
  • Familiarity with cathodic electrical isolation, AC inspections and mitigation
  • Knowledge and physical skills in building, inspecting, installing and maintaining rectifiers and ground beds
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and electricity systems is a plus
  • Build, inspect, install and maintain cathodic, anode junction boxes, remote monitors, coupon test stations and pipeline test stations
  • Ability to independently think and identify efficiencies and process improvements that helps the group
  • Proficient in data collection, data retention, assessment of data, data analysis, and data maintenance within the American Innovations PCS database
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulations, codes, policies, and procedures
  • Travel to all areas of the gas system can be expected with overnight stay as needed up to 50% per year
  • Training will be conducted in areas outside of the designated work location and may require additional travel for up to the first 3 years
  • Must have the ability and be willing to obtain AMPP/NACE level I,II,III, and IV certifications
  • The ability to maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position, consistent with applicable laws and reasonable accommodation requirements
  • Position requires performing individual lifting and manipulating of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and various other physical activities in a variety of weather extremes

Responsibilities

  • Perform 49 CFR 192 compliance tasks on the gas transmission and storage system with a focus on corrosion control.
  • Inspect, monitor and remediate atmospheric, external, and internal corrosion on pipelines.
  • Perform cathodic assessment surveys and related fieldwork.
  • Familiar with ILI assessments and verification of anomalies in the field.
  • Install and maintain cathodic bonds and related electrical isolation measures.
  • Build, inspect, install and maintain cathodic protection equipment and monitoring devices.
  • Collect, analyze and maintain data in PCS database.
  • Travel up to 50% per year to cover multiple gas system locations.

Gas Transmission Corrosion Technician performs a variety of 49 CFR 192 compliance tasks on the gas transmission & storage system with the main focus being corrosion control.
