Job summary

Portland Community College seeks a Testing Assistant for the Corrections Education team. You will proctor CASAS and GED testing for adults in custody at Columbia River Correctional Institution, ensuring accommodations are provided as needed.

You will maintain testing records, escalate issues, and support learners from diverse backgrounds in a secure classroom setting. This casual role supports PCC’s education mission and safety requirements.

  • Maintain records following established guidelines and procedures.
  • Escalate issues to Testing Lead, Education Coordinator, or Education Director as appropriate.

Please see the Casual Employment at PCC section below for more details.CASAS and GED Testing – The casual Testing Assistant is an important part of the Corrections Education team, providing CASAS and GED test proctoring for adults in custody (AIC) who participate in the education program at Columbia River Correctional (near the Portland airport). Proctoring experience is preferred, but specific training is provided.The Testing Assistant provides front-line services to current students and assists them by providing the necessary materials and parameters in which to complete their test.What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking ForTypical Duties and Responsibilities- Provides CASAS and GED testing for Adults in Custody (AIC) at Columbia River Correctional Institution.- Provides approved accommodations for students who need additional resources for testing according to the Oregon Department of Corrections Special Education team.- Proctors make-up testing for students who were unable to take the test at the original scheduled time.- Maintains records following established guidelines and procedures.- Escalates issues to Testing Lead, Education Coordinator, or Education Director as appropriate.- Performs other related duties as assigned.Work Environment and Physical RequirementsWork is performed in the corrections classroom setting, where staff and AIC safety and security is the highest priority. Deadlines and interruptions of workflow are expected and occur on a regular basis.QualificationsHigh school education or equivalent. One year of post-secondary coursework in a relevant field and one year of experience working in an administrative or other similar environment is required. Experience performing the duties of the job may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of:- Policies and procedures related to testing, and placement;- Assessment and the interpretation and application of test results;- Applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations;Skills in:- Problem solving;- Good time management;- Providing excellent customer service.Ability to:- Utilize computer technology and operate a variety of office equipment;- Work with adult learners of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds;- Remain calm in difficult situations and offer viable solutions;- Effectively communicate in oral and written form;- Work collaboratively in a fast-changing environment;- Follow protocols and escalation procedures.This position will remain open until filled.
