Job summary

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time work experience in correctional or law enforcement officer work, one year of which must have been as a correctional officer in a juvenile or adult community/institutional corrections or jail security program.
• A combination of education and full-time experience as described: thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in penology, police science, psychology, sociology, or social work equals one year of full-time experience.
• Eighteen months of full-time work experience as a counselor of offenders in a community/institutional corrections or jail security program.
• A combination of education and full-time experience totaling eighteen months in the described fields, where thirty semester hours of coursework equals one year of experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes: six months as a Senior Correctional Officer; or one year as a Correctional Counselor or State Industries Technician; or two-and-a-half years as a Correctional Officer or Correctional Food Service Coordinator.

Responsibilities

• Shift Supervision & Security: Supervise employees during assigned shifts.
• Visit staffed areas and living/working units once per shift, documenting rounds using a PDA.
• Assign area and personal offender searches to maintain orderly operations.
• Staff Management & Development: Identify training and developmental needs for Correctional Officers, providing coaching to improve performance.
• Assist with training sessions and orientation as designated.
• Administrative & HR Duties: Maintain, approve, and deny CO work time and leave requests in WorkDay and Kronos.
• Complete CO work schedules and write timely performance evaluations.
• Documentation & Investigations: Complete staff investigations thoroughly and on time; maintain logs and entries in ICON.
