Job summary

The Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Sergeant at Sussex State Prison Complex. You will provide first line supervision to Corrections Officers and Trainees, ensure a safe, secure environment, and coordinate on shift with staff and management.

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, valid driver's license, and DCJS certification. You will prepare reports, follow policies, and lead a productive workforce while supporting public safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Current DCJS certification.
• Ability to organize, plan, schedule and supervise the work of others.
• Ability to read and comprehend workplace policies and procedures and to prepare workplace reports and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide first line supervision to Corrections Officers and Trainees.
• Supervise and monitor staff on assigned shift to ensure a safe environment.
• Communicate with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public.
• Lead and counsel staff and ensure required training is completed.
• Maintain a safe and productive workforce.
