State of Florida, Department of Corrections, seeks a CORRECTIONAL OFFICER SERGEANT at Dade Correctional Institution. This is an internal promotional opportunity for current FDC employees.

The incumbent supervises inmates, enforces rules, manages housing, and directs officers in daily operations, with required crisis response and security duties. Applicants must be a US citizen, 18+, with a high school diploma, completed recruit training, and one year as a certified officer in Florida.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers and have one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida.
• Must not have received a suspension within the past 12 months.
• Must not have received an involuntary demotion within the past 24 months.
• Must not have received less than a 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past 3 fiscal years.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates commensurate with the level of risk they present; manages housing areas; enforces rules and sanitation standards.
• Transit and escort inmates using approved restraints; observe laws, policies and procedures.
• Conducts accurate head counts; maintains custody at appointments outside the secured perimeter; escorts within the secured perimeter.
• Inventories inmate personal property and issues receipts.
• Performs crisis intervention; uses force if needed; wear body armor and use weapons.
• Maintains facility security; performs searches; inspects body cavities; checks inmate mail.Observes inmate behavior; uses counseling or referrals; conducts surveillance of areas.
• Provides emergency assistance including CPR, first aid, evacuations as required.
• Directs Correctional Officers in supervising inmates and work details; maintains location counts; operates the Control Room/Main Gate.
• Attends mandatory training; performs related duties as required.
