Job summary

Columbus Consolidated Government in Columbus, GA seeks a Jail Officer responsible for administrative, jail security and prisoner transfer duties. You will perform inmate head counts, transport inmates, administer alcohol tests, sign in visitors, and maintain receipts for bonds while ensuring safety.

The role requires knowledge of laws, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work in a challenging jail environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing arrests, search and seizure, affidavits and warrants.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Strong communication skills both oral and written.

Responsibilities

• Maintains jail security; performs inmate head counts; monitors inmate activities.
• Performs booking and prisoner intake activities; transports inmates to appointments and facilities.
• Administers alcohol tests to inmates; testifies in court regarding tests.
• Serves meals and distributes clothing and linens; confiscates contraband.
• Provides security for medical clinic personnel.
• Wites visits in and out during visitation hours.
• Writes and maintains receipts for bond payments.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
