Job summary

State of South Dakota is seeking a Correctional Officer for the Yankton Minimum Center. The role requires maintaining security, monitoring access, and enforcing post orders to ensure safe operations. Training is provided; no prior experience is required.

Officers work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, with uniforms provided. Applicants must be at least 18, have a valid driver's license, and be able to pass screenings and background checks.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid Driver’s License.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful applicants may undergo abuse and neglect screening and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control access to the facility and restricted areas.
• Man an armed post (annual firearms certification required).
• Escort and transport inmates in state vehicles, while armed.
• Conduct searches and inspections to maintain health, safety, and security.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents using established procedures.
• Follow chain of command and safety protocols.
