Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a Control Room Operator to monitor and control access to secure jail areas. The role includes overseeing prisoner, staff, and visitor movements, responding to alarms, and coordinating emergency responses.

You will also maintain daily logs, operate video and alarm systems, and ensure strict security protocols are followed. The position requires two years of related experience, background and drug testing, and obtaining BCi certification.

Qualifications

• Two years of directly related experience (e.g., Law Enforcement, Facility Protection, Security, Dispatch, Corrections, Loss Prevention, Video Surveillance, Call Center).
• Must pass a fingerprint background check and enroll in RAP Back per County policy.
• Must pass a mandatory drug test and be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Controls employee, prisoner, visitor, and volunteer access to secure doors, booking areas, units, halls, and high-traffic areas.
• Remotely monitors movement throughout jails and responds to emergencies.
• Observes prisoners in housing units, booking, visiting, halls, and other areas of jails.
• Responds to alarms, conducts lockdowns or evacuations as needed.
• Receives and dispatches information for callouts and directs special units as needed.
• Monitors recording equipment and video; maintains logs and reports.
