Job summary

Coweta County is seeking a Corrections Officer to maintain security within the correctional facility, supervise inmates, conduct intakes, transfers, and escorts, and ensure reporting accuracy.

The role requires strong observation, the ability to follow rules, and the physical capability to handle routine exertion. A high school diploma or GED is required, plus a willingness to obtain POST and GCIC/NCIC certifications within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety and security of inmates inside and outside the facility.
• Receives and processes inmates into custody.
• Verifies release orders and responds to inmate status inquiries.
• Escorts and transports inmates to court and appointments.
• Supervises meals, recreation, and visitation; verifies visitor identification.
• Administers drug screening and resolves conflicts.
• Answers telephone and monitors radio traffic.
• Enters information into the computer system and maintains records.
• Prepares reports and maintains files and records.
• Supervises monitoring equipment and ensures proper operation.
• Promotes a culture of excellent service.
