Job summary

Floyd County Board of Commissioners seeks a dedicated Correctional Officer to oversee inmate safety and security. The role involves supervising inmates inside the facility and on work details, conducting searches, and maintaining orderly operations.

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a clean record, and the ability to obtain POST certification within a year. Valid driver’s license and required training are also part of the job.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to obtain P.O.S.T. certification within 12 months.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to complete required training.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inmates inside the facility and on outside work detail; counts inmates as required.
• Searches inmates, visitors, mail, and areas to prevent contraband.
• Manages property room, inventories knives and tools, and issues keys and weapons.
• Monitors facility security, inspects doors and fences, and responds to alarms.
• Communicates information across shifts to coordinate inmate activities.
• Distributes meals, toiletries, clothing, bedding; coordinates visitation and calls.
