Job summary

The City of Slidell seeks a Corrections Officer for Slidell City Jail to care for inmates and maintain safety, sanitation, and operational integrity per policy and laws. Under general supervision by the Corrections Sergeant, responsibilities include conducting searches, managing inmate bookings, supervising activities, documenting logs, and assisting with basic inmate needs.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, successful Civil Service testing, and completion of a Louisiana POST Corrections

Qualifications

• Must possess a High School graduation diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalent.
• Successful completion of Civil Service testing administered by the City of Slidell Human Resources Department.
• Equivalent combination of related higher education, corresponding training, certifications or experience with other law enforcement agencies or prisoner detention centers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough searches and maintain control of all prisoners in custody.
• Perform regular inspections of the jail for contraband and ensure proper operation of security systems and documentation of maintenance.
• Carry out all phases of inmate booking, detention, and release according to department policies and SOPs.
• Accurately document daily operational events in the Jail Log Book.
• Monitor and supervise the daily activities of inmates while maintaining security and inspections of all areas accessible to prisoners.
• Oversee inmate work details on-site, as assigned.
• Assist with or administer basic needs of inmates, including meals, hygiene, housing, and medical care.
• Order and receive jail supplies and equipment following purchasing procedures.
• Report for duty during disasters and emergencies.
