Job summary

Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking qualified individuals for the Contractual Correctional Officer II role in Anne Arundel County (Jessup Correctional Institution). Duties include custody, security, and supervision of inmates, with potential morning or evening shifts.

Responsibilities cover transporting inmates to medical appointments statewide, enforcing rules, providing emergency medical assistance, and communicating effectively with staff and inmates.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate (per the Maryland standards).
• One year of experience as a correctional officer with custody and security of inmates.
• U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status and background check requirements.

Responsibilities

• Transport incarcerated individuals to medical appointments statewide.
• Maintain custody and security of inmates.
• Administer emergency medical assistance when needed.
• Perform physically demanding tasks and restraints as required.
• Communicate clearly with inmates and staff, both verbally and in writing.
• Assess situations and provide appropriate solutions.
• Guide inmates' adjustment to institutional rules and procedures.
