Job summary

Anne Arundel County Office of Personnel seeks a full-time Detention Officer for the Department of Detention Facilities. The role involves responding to emergencies, supervising inmates, and enforcing safety procedures in a high-stakes environment.

You will report to the facility, work rotating shifts including weekends/holidays, and may require firearms qualification after training. A thorough background check, medical and psychological evaluation are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED is required.
• Must be able to perform under safety-sensitive conditions and pass background checks.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles and communicate via radio equipment.

Responsibilities

• Stand, walk, and remain alert for prolonged periods.
• Respond to emergencies and manage threats to reduce danger.
• Subdue inmates and control uncooperative individuals.
• Respond to medical emergencies and secure the scene.
• Operate a vehicle to transport inmates as needed.
• Qualify with firearms after training and pass self-defense tests.
• Complete written reports and communicate via radio.
• Work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
