Job summary

Centre County Government is seeking personnel to oversee inmate safety and security at the Centre County Correctional Facility. Responsibilities include supervision of inmate activities, searches, head counts, meals and medication distribution, transport assistance, and visitor oversight.

The role requires pre-employment training through a PA Department of Corrections academy, with part-time hours and potential progression to full-time status within six months.

Responsibilities

• Care, custody and control of inmates.
• Maintain safety and security by directing and supervising activities in the Prison.
• Conduct searches on incoming inmates and prepare them for commitment.
• Make rounds and ensure proper head counts and overall safety.
• Document and maintain daily log of prison activities and incidents.
• Observe inmates and identify unusual behaviors or needs.
• Check incoming mail, clothing and items for contraband.
• Serve meals and assist in distribution of medications to inmates.
• Ensure doors and windows are locked and prison is secure.
• Interface with prisoners to determine needs or problems.
• Assist in transporting inmates as necessary.
• Oversee visitations within the prison.
• Input statistical data into the computer for records.
• Perform basic interior repairs and cleaning tasks.
• Perform field urine drug tests for inmates.
• Fulfill other job related work as required.

• Serves meals and assists in distrubution of pepared medications to inmates.
• Ensures all doors and windows are locked and prison is secure.
• Interfaces with prisoners to determine their needs or problems.
• Assists in transporting of inmates as necessary (i.e., for counselors, lawyers, or to other prisons).
• Oversees visitations within the prison.
• Assists in entering statistical data in computer for database records.
• Performs simple interior repairs, (i.e., changing light bulbs, emptying of trash or sweeping of floor, etc.).
• Performs field urine drug tests for inmates.
• Performs other job related work as required.
• This is a safety/security position and requires successful completion of several pre-employment requirements.**
• Must satisfactorily fulfill the requirements of a Training Academy certified by the PA Department of Corrections.**
• **PT employees average 32 hours per week and get promoted to full time status within 6 months. There is current opportunity to exceed 32 hours per week.**
