Job summary

Commonwealth of VA Careers is seeking a Security Manager II for Red Onion State Prison in Virginia. The role directs security operations, leads supervisors, and enforces post orders and policies to maintain a safe, secure institution.

The candidate will coordinate across shifts, develop staff, and assist senior leadership with long-term security planning and contingency measures. A DCJS certification and extensive corrections supervision experience are required.

Qualifications

• Experience developing post orders, interpreting, and explaining written policies and procedures to staff.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and counsel staff.
• Knowledge of physical control of inmates, self-defense, first aid procedures, radio communications, and evidence seizure and control.
• LEAD Graduate or equivalent applicable experience or training.
• Experience with Evidence Based Practices.
• Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook proficiency.

Job Duties

Position contributes to the public safety mission by directing ongoing security operations in an institutional setting. Coordinates and reviews the work of security supervisors on all shifts to ensure a safe, secure, and productive environment. Leads, develops, counsels, and disciplines staff. Conducts periodic inspections to ensure compliance with security post audit, policies and procedures governing all aspects of institutional operations. Assists the Warden and Assistant Warden in long-term planning, and development of security and contingency plans. Interacts with institutional, regional, divisional, and departmental management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver’s License. DCJS Certification. Extensive experience in the supervision of corrections staff.
