Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Corrections, seeks a Corrections Maintenance Foreman to supervise inmate crews and guide upkeep across facility grounds.

You will plan daily schedules, assign tasks, inspect work for quality, and provide instruction in machinery operation and basic trades to maintain safe, functional spaces.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
• You must pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.

• Oversee inmate work crews performing lawn care, snow removal, janitorial tasks, and routine maintenance work.
• Plan daily schedules, assign tasks, and inspect completed work for quality and accuracy.
• Provide instruction in the operation and maintenance of machinery and vehicles while maintaining order and discipline.
• Perform or assist with carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and welding tasks.
• Issue materials and tools, maintain inventories, and search inmates and work areas to ensure accountability.
• Identify needed supplies and submit purchase requests for materials and tools required for assignments.

THE POSITION

Join the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Maintenance Foreman and help guide important upkeep across facility grounds. In this role, you lead inmate work crews, teach essential skills, and support safe and efficient daily operations. Your leadership will help maintain clean, functional spaces that support the entire institution.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position directs inmate work crews and assists with maintenance tasks that support the safe and orderly operation of the facility. As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman, you will perform the following duties:

• Crew Supervision: Oversee inmate work crews performing lawn care, snow removal, janitorial tasks, and routine maintenance work
• Work Planning: Plan daily schedules, assign tasks, and inspect completed work for quality and accuracy
• Skill Instruction: Provide instruction in the operation and maintenance of machinery and vehicles while maintaining order and discipline
• Trade Assistance: Perform or assist with semi-skilled and skilled work in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, and welding
• Tool Control: Issue materials and tools, maintain inventories, and search inmates and work areas to ensure accountability
• Material Requests: Identify needed supplies and submit purchase requests for materials and tools required for assignments

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
