Job summary

NFI Massachusetts, Inc. seeks a detail-oriented Part-Time Library Service Staff member to oversee library services at the Middleton Jail & House of Correction under the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.

The role manages both physical and digital collections, conducts audits and organization, and supports learning, legal access, and personal development for justice-involved individuals. Evening hours required with a 24 hours/week schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Studies, Education, or related field.
• Experience in library services, preferably with justice-involved populations.
• Familiarity with legal research resources.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily library operations within the facility.
• Manage physical and digital collections; audits, maintenance, and organization.
• Select and acquire books, journals, and materials to support program needs.
• Catalog and classify materials for efficient retrieval.
• Receive, document, and manage legal discovery materials per ECSD protocols.
• Schedule and coordinate access for individuals reviewing legal materials.
• Assist individuals in locating educational, legal, and recreational reading materials.
• Provide guidance on use of library resources and databases.
• Manage check-in/check-out processes for library materials.
• Develop and facilitate programming (e.g., book clubs, educational or cultural activities).
• Prepare and submit required reports.
• Ensure compliance with all NFI Massachusetts and ECSD policies and procedures.
