Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Corrections, seeks a Corrections Library Assistant for the SCI Smithfield library. You will support inmates and staff by maintaining library operations, guiding inmate workers, and coordinating materials delivery in a secure facility.

The role requires clerical experience, PA residency, and ability to pass CJIS checks. Telework is not available; the schedule is full-time with regular hours, and retirement benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Two years of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must meet PA residency requirements.
• Background investigation and CJIS compliance required.
• Ability to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain orderly library operations and assist patrons in locating resources.
• Guide inmate workers, support training, and complete attendance/progress reports.
• Manage daily call-outs, track inmate accountability, and deliver materials to housing units.
• Process interlibrary loan requests and ensure books are permitted for use.
• Respond to questions from inmates and staff professionally.
• Recommend new books and periodicals to strengthen the library inventory.
